LTAC Red Ribbon Week October 24-28, 2011

Next week we will host Red Ribbon week. It will focus on Drug and alcohol awareness and prevention with the students. The week will be filled with activities and events to educate students about the pitfalls of drug and alcohol abuse.

On Tuesday we will have a presentation from Lane Tech's D.A.R.E. Officer and on Thursday we will conduct a seminar that will increase student awareness about the risks and consequences associated with drug and alcohol use.

So, what is Red Ribbon Week? In 1985, Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was working undercover in Mexico when he was caught, tortured, and murdered by drug traffickers. IDEA, along with the Virginia Federation of Parents, organized the first National Red Ribbon Campaign to recognize Kiki’s fight. The Red Ribbon became the symbol of zero tolerance for illegal drug use and a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. The Red Ribbon campaign helps to build individual and community awareness regarding alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and addiction, and publicizes the prevention and intervention programs available to address these social concerns.
During this week we would like all students to participate in the following fun activities emphasizing the “don’t do drugs” message.

October 24-28, 2011
Themed Days for Red Ribbon Week
Monday: “Red Ribbon Day” Wear Red day
Tuesday: Sock It to Drugs Day-Wear crazy socks
Wednesday: Turn Your Back on Drugs Day”- Wear shirts backwards
Thursday: Get tough – go extremely red – how much red can you wear all in one day? Friday: Team Up Against Drugs”- Wear any type of team jersey or t-shirt

Have a great weekend!!!!!!!
