  2. End of the Year 8th Grade Graduation Information
    1. Wednesday June 13:
      1. Graduation practice 8-9:30AM
      2. Spirit of Chicago Boat Cruise  11AM-1PM
        1. Dress code: semi-formal attire that meets Lane Tech dress code
        2. Students will receive their cap and gown, and 9 graduation tickets when we return from the boat cruise
    2. Thursday June 14:
      1. No school for 8th graders
    3. Graduation Ceremony 5:00PM (doors open at 4:40pm)
      1. Students MUST arrive by 4:15PM and will be ready to walk by 4:45PM
    4. PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL COPY OF YOUR STUDENT AS A BABY FOR A SPECIAL SLIDESHOW PRESENTATION BEFORE GRADUATION -- SHHHH!! THIS IS A SURPRISE FOR OUR 8TH GRADERS!
      1. I will begin making the slideshow this afternoon so if you haven’t sent it, please do!
  3. Rising 8th Graders Summer Reading
    1. Incoming Freshmen Honors Survey Literature Summer Reading Assignment
    2. I will send an email with the summer reading project next week.
  4. Note from Ms. Reed about Rising 8th Grade Schedules
    1. "Ms. Reed met with all students back in April to plan and solidify their schedules.  As a reminder, students only get one elective spot. If your student is not happy with their elective option, they should refer to the email from Ms. Hildebrandt to fill out the form.  There are no guarantees that schedule changes can be accommodated, but filling out the form is the best way for your student to request a schedule change. If you have further questions, you can contact Ms. Reed at nyreed@cps.edu."

NEW Incoming LTAC: Math Entrance Exam Info

When: Saturday, May 19

Where: Lane Tech Gym 3

Time: Doors Open at 9AM 
*You will not be allowed in the building until 9AM (there is a large coaching conference happening at Lane on Saturday as well and we cannot interrupt their registration process
*You will enter through Door "M" off the parking lot
*You will be directed up to the third floor
*Parents, please stay in the parking lot when dropping off and picking up your student

Test Start: 9:30AM

Test Finish: 11:00AM

Reminders:
* Bring only a pencil
* NO calculators
* NO cell phone or electronics
* Please bring a book if you would like something to do if you finish the exam early

    1. 5.21 -  5.22 ONLY
    2. Math on 5.21 and English on 5.22
      1. Math: no calculator
      2. Practice tests on NWEA website
    3. Schedule and more information coming later

5. May 18 8th Grade Service Learning Day
  1. Students have chosen and been assigned to their service learning project
  2. Please see attached documents in email with important information on each project
    • COLLECTION DRIVES
      • Cradles to Crayons
        • Boys clothing (sizes 10 to 18 and adult M), New and gently used sneakers, rain boots, flip flops (sizes newborn to adult 10), spring jackets (sizes newborn to ages 10-12), diapers and wipes, new bedding, new socks, new underwear, and new pajamas, books (especially baby board books for ages 10-12),  car seats, new and like new toys, new batteries
      • Breakthrough
        • Shampoo, body wash, deoderant, lotion such as vaseline or cocoa butter, carmex, toothpaste, toothbrush, linens (towels, washcloths, blankets, comforter, matress pad, pillow sheets), trash cans, fans, extension cords, power strips, dry erase boards, kleenex, razors, hair dryer, school supplies, hangers
  • This will complete the 9th Grade English Service Learning Project requirement if students choose to use it
    • Students can also choose their own outside service learning separate from this day if they want.  They will still participate on May 18, however.
  • Cost of Transportation
    • There is a $15.00 transportation cost due to Ms. Cory by Wednesday May 16
    • This covers the cost of transportation for the Service Learning Day and the Spirit of Chicago Boat Cruise

7. May 18 - June 8 Community Service Drive-- Sponsored by LTAC Student Council
  1. “Hope for a Home: LTAC gives back”
  • Gently-used or new homegoods collection drive to donate to Humble Design Chicago
  • Items Needed:
    • Bathroom Items (rugs, towels, washcloths, shower rack, toothbrush holder, hand towels etc.)
    • Kitchen Items (pots, pans, dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, dishrags, sponges, tupperware, etc.)
    • Other household items easily brought to school for donation
  • GOAL: 500 items by June 8
  • Student Council will be coming to Advisories in May to discuss details and give a presentation on the issue of homelessness in Chicago and the organization, Humble Design Chicago

    • Thursday, June 7: Math & World Studies (ALL MAKE UP WORK DUE JUNE 7)
    • Monday, June 11: Chemistry (ALL MAKE UP WORK DUE JUNE 11)
    • ALL make up work must be turned in on day of final exam--no exceptions.  There is no wiggle room for late or make up work to be turned in AFTER the day of the final exam in any given class

9. Senate Gallery and House of Representatives tickets
  • When we were in D.C. we received Senate and House impGallery viewing tickets from Senator Durbin’s office.
  • They are good for up to year.
  • If anyone will be traveling to D.C. in the next year and would like some tickets, please email me at CUlmer@cps.edu.

Congratulations Math Team!!




This past weekend, the LTAC Math Team had their most successful contest to date. The 8th grade team beat Whitney Young, came in 1st place, and had the top 3 individual scores. Congrats to Mirza Mehmedagic (1st place), Ryan To (2nd place), Hank Stennes (2nd place), Nolan Hey, Kaylee Fang, and Jack Decker. Ryan To and Hank Stennes also won the 8th grade video contest. The 7th grade team won 2nd place overall and had the top 2 individual scores. James Pan had the highest total score in LTAC history with 58 out of 60 questions correct and is the first LTAC student to win 1st place overall on the season. Lekh Murthy also won 2nd place this contest. Congratulations to all of our LTAC Mathletes!

May Parent Meeting: May 10 11:00AM in the CCC

The May parent meeting will be in the CCC at 11:00AM on May 10.

This change is due to the DC trip and AP Testing.
